Wool, linen, ink

Agness Cochran worked these exquisite flowers in wool crewel yarns on a fragment of linen while she lived in Boston in the mid-eighteenth century. Luckily, a descendant carefully marked the corner after her death with Agness’s name and age. Without that note, and the care taken in preserving it, Agness and her work would have remained anonymous.
